11/07/2005: "On sisters and stuff"

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I worked. Revisions, part of a chapter on the new book, more revisions. Also watched Agent Cody Banks with my honey, which was nice. Played with the puppy which was exhausting. And now it's Monday again. I should have the revisions done today, then zoom back into the book. We're probably leaving today (maybe tomorrow) for a night, so if I'm not here tomorrow, that's why.

Since it's my sister's birthday today, I thought I'd share a little about her. She's a remarkable woman, truly. She had 5 kids and home schooled them. Not your typical home schooling, though. She trusted that they were curious and wanted to learn everything, so she basically made the world available to them, and they chose their own paths. This might seem like it wouldn't be effective, but all her kids ended up doing brilliantly. One's in law school, one graduated with honors from Rutgers and is now going to Cornell grad school, another is a psychologist (I think that's right) and the youngest is in this faboo educational program in Boston. After my sister raised her kids, she went to rabbinical school, and became a Rabbi. She has a congregation in NY. She's recently re-married and the two of them are teaching, counseling and writing. I love her lots, and I wish we lived closer so I could see her more often. Although I still think it's weird to call her Rabbi.

Being the heathen daughter, who does not in any way believe in a anthropomorphized god, I do respect her a lot for her beliefs, and I'm even a little envious that she can find such happiness there. Personally, I've always looked for my happiness in pharmaceuticals. (just kidding!!)

So, any family members you want to brag about??? Come on, don't be shy. (That's kind of a joke, because my sister's last name is Shy. Oh, never mind.)

We saw Cody Banks. It was pretty good. I am watching Rat Race for like the 100th time I think. But since I am once again sitting in a hotel room and can not find anything else on...

That is definitely a sister to brag about!! She sounds awesome! Rabbi Shy for sister? that is cool smile hee hee

Brag??? I have 2 sisters and 1 brother. We are all best of friends. We get together as often as we can. 2 of us are in Idaho and 2 are in Washington. We just got back from a weekend at Seaside Oregon celebrating my brother's 40th birthday. A tradition that got started when I turned 40 a 100 years ago smile 1 of my sisters is home schooling her kids, and lets them decide a lot of what they want to do too. It is pretty amazing what kids will pick if given their choice smile My other sister works at a Vet Hospital and does TONS of volunteer work to Rescue animals. My brother builds houses...really big ones smile I wish I could afford to live in one of his houses smile

No siblings, so my husband and my grown up son are my heroes. If I had a sis I'd sure want one like yours!!

Very cool that your sister is a Rabbi. I'm proud of my sister for walking away from a bad marriage and not letting the hard times she experienced afterwards defeat her. She's raised a wonderful daughter, bought a house on her own, and is quite happy now. big grin
