12/12/2005: "Announcements and stuff"
Check out my column at Romancing the Blog. I'm going public with the Uber Challenge. (See the neato icon the DH made! on the sidebar!). You can sign up now if you know what your challenge is going to be. The group will go live Jan. 1st. Hot damn!
I'm zeroing in on the end of the book, with all the action stuff coming to a conclusion as well as the romance, and man, it's…hard. But it's happening. I just wish I wasn't so late. I know, however, that I'll be very proud of the finished product.
Oh, another announcement. I'll be speaking at the St. Lake City RWA conference on Feb 4th. So if you can, sign up! It sounds like a fabulous conference.
Okay, so one more announcement, then I'll stop. I promise. See sidebar, part 2. Minute by Minute is coming out really, really soon! It's the 24 hour book, and technically it's a January book, but it'll be on the stands any minute. Let me know if you spot it, mkay? Cause living here in the boonies, I never get to real live book stores.
And how was your weekend?

I'm in! I joined!
Good luck reaching the end, Jo, and I'll keep my eyes open for the book!

Great, Chris! Do you know what your challenge is going to be?

I'm focusing on conflict - something my agent and I both agree is at the top of the "most in need" list

I'm joining right now. My challenge is a toss-up between characterization and plot. I'm weakest at plot, but I just don't think a year is enough time to improve!

Chris - conflict is a great challenge, and there's lot of help out there for you.
Larissa, I'm delighted you're joining. One thing about the year-long challenge is that it subtly changes your focus. When I did narrative, for example, I started reading differently, and picked things up that I never would have, had I not been looking. And I noticed things that had nothing to do with narrative, per se. IOW, I learned so much, just because I made the decision to. (Hope that makes sense)

I like the idea of just picking one thing - I get so scattered. Hence why my focus is...focus. Trying to center myself on writing category romance novels. Not shorts, not cookbooks, not single title. Yeah, the ADD ought to love this

Jenna, I like that, too. There's so many ways to get distracted at this game. Focus is great.

Well, I guess since I am NOT a writer I will not join.
But I will root for all of you to reach your goals
