12/15/2005: "Yippee!!"

Missed the eHarlequin Open House chat last night…won't go into details, but it wasn't pretty. The good news is that I've basically finished the book (yay!) and after some edits today, the book goes in. I have to say that while it was a difficult write, I'm very pleased with how it came out. We'll see if the editor agrees.

So, holidays! I have to wrap stuff and finished knitting stuff and mail stuff and cook stuff (and clean stuff but that's not part of the fun). We're leaving the 21st and we'll be back the 26th, but we'll have a laptop this time, so I'll be able to check in from time to time.

We're planning on doing movies - Kong, Good Night and Good Luck, Narnia, maybe Family Stone. We try and catch the movies that are much more impressive on the big screen. We're also going to visit with friends and family, including the wonderful Barbara McCauley, who is one of my plotting partners. She's having a party today and I can't go, which sucks, cause her parties are fabulous. Oh, wait. It was yesterday. Hmph.

I'm also buying a new coat, which is something quite necessary here on Mount Doom. I haven't bought a new one in something like 10 years, so it's time. I just want the warmest damn thing there is. It's so friggin' cold here.

Oh - yesterday, I had to run to the store for something and we had a limited window of opportunity, due to icy roads. So I dashed out, looking like crap on wheels, and tried to do some stealth shopping. I'm standing in line in my little town, and the women in front of me, whom I didn't recognize, says (loudly) "Oh, you're Jolie Kramer! I read your last book. Are you coming out with anything new?" There were lots of people in line, and they all started asking me about the books and writing, and how their mothers read Harlequin (cough) and it was just a real slice. When I say I looked like crap, you can trust me on that. Now, how come that can't happen when I've got makeup on? When my hair doesn't look like I stuff my finger in a socket? And, uh, the sweats I was wearing? Total glam. Right. ::sigh::

Jo, Congrats on finishing the book. LOL! On being recognized. I had something similar happen to me yesterday. (Not being recognized, but getting waylaid without makeup.) I walked into the gym and the two girls that work there jumped me for a booksigning. (They want me to sign at the gym's open house day.) There was a woman working out there who then stopped her workout long enough to pepper me with questions. I felt like I was getting grilled. I was also extremely aware that I was standing there looking like poo on a stick without a shred of makeup on and wrinkled sweats covering my out of shape body. Not pretty.

I missed the Blaze chat because I got kicked off and then went to the gym. The whole eHarlequin chat and board area was incredibly slow ALL day. Took me 10/15 minutes to get into the Intrigue and SIM chats when I returned from the gym.

Oh, I didn't know you'd be there, kim. Damn.

Jordan, I feel your pain. Jeez. Can't people tell when ve vant to be alone?

Oh, then I kinda feel better, Nicole, because I'm on the dial up connection from hell. I probably wouldn't have been able to participate, anyway.

PS -- the book, she is done and with my editor. Yowza!

Dare I suggest it's because they don't recognise you when you're made-up, well-dressed with hair brushed? big grin
Don't worry - they'll have gone away with the memory of a charming lady who took time to talk to them, not of how you looked (if you even DID look that bad, which I doubt! smile)
Hugs
