12/21/2005: "Exit, Stage Left"
After a wonderful first Christmas dinner, we're out of here today. I'm bringing the laptop, so if all goes well, I'll check in from the road.
The most difficult part of the trip is going to be deciding which movies to see. So many choices. It's odd when you've lived your whole life being able to see anything, including obscure art films, at any time, and then don't have a theater anywhere close. I covet my movie experiences. And yeah, we can see it on DVD later, but there are some movies that deserve a theater. So we'll probably do Kong, maybe Narnia. And we'll seek out Good Night and Good Luck, because we'll be in LA and it'll be showing there. We're also picking up, as gifts to ourselves, the DVDs of Sin City (the new one with the extras) and Serenity. I also want to go to a bookstore and just wander around. I'm farther, actually, from a bookstore than a movie theater, and how awful is that? Yeah, there's online to buy books, but I miss the actual brick and mortar stores. The scent of books, the look of them all stacked and neat. God, I love books. Even the library here in my little town is sucky. Really sucky.
I think the one most excited about the trip is the puppy, because she's going to spend 6 days with her sister! They're such a riot together. They squabble like they're going to kill each other, teeth bared, much growling, only they don't ever really bite. They'll even stop mid-growl if something distracts them. (Oooh, shiny!) So we figure this is like camp for her, and I know she's going to have a great time. We just hope she remembers to be a good girl (not even 4 month old and she's really, really good at letting us know she needs to go outside), and doesn't pick up any bad habits from her evil sister. Or vice-versa. Puppies. So damn cute.
Okay, I have to pack. Weee! Road trip!

Sounds like your Christmas week is underway! LOVE yo0ur knitted toys idea.. I have two kitties who will not play with toys. My previous 2 cats LOVED their toys, and so they got a lot of Christmas presents. These two prefer a live bird from
the yard now and then, that they catch themselves..and occasionally, an errant piece of string lying on the floor of the closet. How boring!
they will roll around in some catnip if I toss it on the rug, so that will be their Christmas morning gift! Ahh..kitty drugs.
have a wonderful trip!

Hope you've had a marvelous time. "Sin City" and "Serenity" were two of our Christmas movies this year - I think you'll like 'em.
"Sin City" was one of my favorites this year - I love film noir.
Looking forward to your return and finding out more about the writers' challenge for January.

Hope you had a wonderful holiday and are having a blast on your road trip! I got a beautiful pink coat for Christmas that happens to match the scarf you made for me. It's perfect and now I can wear it all winter.
