01/09/2006: "Who?"
Thinking cap post:
Who's your favorite literary character and why?
Mine is Horatio Hornblower, because of his complexity and his brilliance. Every time I read the Hornblower books I'm blow away by the layers of the his character, and how he attacks problems. I yearn to write someone as deeply moving and affecting as Horatio.
Okay, your turn.

hm, I don't have a clue! Reading Romance books does not lend to deep character development does it...or complex. I have never read the Horatio Hornblower series, but maybe I should...you have said before what a great series this is...

I'd have to say Sherlock Holmes. He's twisted, unkind, but bloody brilliant.

I really don't know if I can pick just one.
I'm a huge fan of Anne Shirley, of course. Reepicheep the Mouse. Phineas from A SEPARATE PEACE (I was so in love with him!) The Count of Monte Cristo. Odysseus, now there's a man. Gerta from THE SNOW QUEEN. Elizabeth Bennet. Eowyn. Psyche.
I know I'm forgetting some.

I know. It's hard to pick one. The second I posted my fave, I thought of half a dozen others. What I'm looking at now is why my favorites are my favorites.

Looking at my list, I think it's pretty obvious what the common element with these folks are. Courage, honor, individuality.
