Who’s Your Doggie?

UPDATE: If you send me a (small) pic of your pup, I’ll add it to your comment!

I’m currently working on a book that stars a pet concierge. Needless to say, there are going to be a number of canine cameos in the book. Of course, my little darlin’ Jessie will make an appearance, but I was thinking it would be fun to feature other puppy pals in the book…so here’s your chance to have your dog immortalized in a new Blaze!

Comment below, giving me your dog’s name, age, breed, and a one or two line description, and I’ll do my best to include your pooch in print. I’ll also include some kitties, although fewer, and if you have an unusual pet, say a ferret or a pot-bellied pig, I’ll see what I can do.

No promises, however. If I get a gazillion posts, I wouldn’t have room for the romance, but hell, let’s see if we can populate PetQuarters right here!

PS - I have no idea if one can add a pic in a comment. If you can, go for it (small, please). Or if you’d like to add a link, that would be great, too. I’ll make sure and keep a running list of who will appear, so check back in late October to find out if your pet is going to be in a Blaze!

  1. AJ O'Donovan says:

My dog is caled lucy, she is a border collie mixed breed, so basically shes black on the top with a white tip to her tail and a white under belly. shes got some brown in places too.

She’s 16 and still acts like a puppy, and she’s really a big softie. she’ll lick you to death if given half a chance =D

its so cool that you’re doing this! its a great idea

    Lucy!

  2. Willa says:

Ooh, would love to enter my dog for a canine cameo. She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Rosie and she is 10. ‘Seriously Cute’ just about covers her description!

    Rosie!

  3. Gina says:

I have an orange tiger cat named Pooh who weighs over 25 pounds. He’s twelve. Like his namesake he’s a cat of little brain. Here’s a picture of him from a few years ago. He’s fatter than this now. And yes, he’s on a diet but it doesn’t seem to be working!

    Pooh!

  4. Alison Kent says:

Here’s a link, if the pic doesn’t work. I think only blog owners can post pics usually!

My Snickers is a English Pointer / Beagle mix who does not retrieve but takes away, and who does not come, but goes. She must be touching someone at all times when relaxing, whether just a foot or a whole lap. And she must kiss. Constantly. In this pic, she is moping because I won’t go outside to write, and she likes me to be outside with her!

    Snickers!

  5. Heidi Clark says:

    Zoe
    Age 7
    Australian Shepherd/Heeler mix

Zoe is a black and white, carefree, high-energy, intelligent pooch with a sense of humor. She is highly possessive of her toys, bandanas, and treats; she loves to tease and loves to play. Her favorite trick is to dramatically spin around and “die” when you say BANG!, and then to play dead until you say RESURRECT!
    Zoe!

  6. Lis says:

name - HBK (heartbreak kid, nickname HB)
    AGE - 3 @ time of pic
breed - shih tzu/lhasa apso cross
coloring - black, with white goatee and white chest. touches of brown on his paws.
Tidbit - smells like cheezies lol

I’ll get a pic of HB up on the blog today. Blog link - http://leesielis.blogspot.com
    HB!

  7. Lis says:

oh and forgot to add HB’s cutest trait, he has to have dessert with every meal. Even if he has a few bites of kibble he goes straight over to the milk bones for dessert *g*

  8. Jo Leigh says:

How adorable are these puppies and kitty! I’m going to have such fun with them in the book. And thanks for the little notes about them - I’m going to include what I can, hopefully all the things that make them special!

  9. Bekke says:

These are my one and a half year old cats, Murmur (domestic shorthair, Russian Blue mix) and Monster (*hairy* domestic shorthair black/brown/white tabby). Murmur is a small guy, only 13 pounds, and he’s a total spazz. He likes to play fetch, especially with my husband’s guitar strings. He’ll bring us toys to throw and paw our arms until we comply. He’s kind of a scaredy cat–doesn’t like men, especially big guys–but once he’s decided you’re his buddy, he won’t leave you alone.

Monster is a big boy of 18 pounds. He’s the biggest pain in the ass cat I’ve ever owned. He likes to roll onto his back, but if you try to scratch his belly, he bites. He’s really soft and fluffy but hardly ever allows us to cuddle him. Earlier this year, he learned to open doors, and to keep him out of a room we have to lock the door, which makes him really mad. Below you can see him opening a door…

  10. Jo Leigh says:

Fabulous, Bekke! I had a cat who opened doors. Pain in the ass, is right.

    So cute!

  11. Seanachi says:

Daisy is a border collie mix. She’s 6 and thinks she’s the Queen of Sheeba. This was her as a puppy. 10 weeks!

    Daisy!

Angel is a Heinz 57 mutt. We think she may be a pit bull mix. She’s 100% lapdog and loves to cuddle and lick.

    Angel!

  12. Jo Leigh says:

    Seanachi,

I’ve got a border collie mix, and she also thinks she’s the bee’s knees.

    Jessie!

    Daisy is a doll!

Oh, and look at how gorgeous Angel is!

I want all the critters to come over. I’ll serve milk bones!

  13. Susan/DC says:

We had a Tibetan terrier named Ruben for 14 years until he died of old age. He’d been my sister’s dog for 4 years before that. She got him when she lived in Florence, Italy, and we used to say that he was bilingually disobedient, because he tended to ignore commands in both English and Italian that he didn’t like. When my youngest son was born, Ruben began to have accidents in the night, and when we took him to the vet, thinking he must be sick, the vet said Ruben wasn’t sick, he just had sibling rivalry. So along with dealing with my 3 young sons, I also had to be sure to give Ruben his special time every day. It worked and just emphasized how much a part of our family our dog was. We still miss him.

  14. AJ O'Donovan says:

i just spent ages writing out a comment, and i think it didnt go through =(

  15. Ilona says:

AJ - your comment did go through and here’s a link to a pic of your younger brother and Lucy playing his drums

    Lucy!

  16. #2 says:

I have two mutts that I love dearly. This is Miss Geisha, or Goober, or Goobs. She’s a 2 year old doberman mix I got at the Houston SPCA when she was a tiny 17 lbs. Now she weighs about 60 lbs. She loves to run an play with other dogs especially little ones and puppies, boxer pups in particular. She gets very rowdy in the mornings and likes to throw punches.

    Miss Geisha Goobs!

And I also have another mutt, Tobi Wan Kenobi. He is Alison’s Snicker’s brother. We think he is a beagle/pit bull mix [which would make their mom quite the charmer ;) ]. He’s about a year and a half, with an adorable heart-shaped spot on his right hip. He loves fuzzy little dogs.. a little too much. And he poops on trees.

    Tobi Wan Kenobi!

  17. AJ O'Donovan says:

my friend max has a dog caled charlie. Max’s dog Charlie, is nine years old and is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier crossed with a labrador. (they think)

    here is the picture-

    Charlie!

  18. Jo Leigh says:

I hope I got all the pictures right! If not, let me know.

And may I just say that we all seem to have the cutest pets in the whole world. I’m just sayin’.

  19. Shawn Hansen says:

This is one of my rescues: I rescued his mom and having lived on the streets of Sacramento, said mom had been, well, knocked up.

Buster Brown (i.e. Buster Brown Butter Bean Boy; Buster-Buster-Brown-and-Round) is one of the pups, and if I might say so myself, a handsome devil. (Who gives Charles Gibson a serious run for his money.)

  20. Shawn Hansen says:

Oh, my. . .the links were stripped. LOL

    Buster!

    Buster!

  21. Ellen says:

I inherited a dog named Corkie from the woman I bought my house from when she moved and couldn’t take Corkie with her. I had him for about 8 years. He was a true hybrid. The mother was a hybrid and the father was who knows. Anyway he was about the size of a cocker spaniel and had a really red coat. He is not longer with us but he had a really neat trick. We used a metal bowl to feed him in and when he was through eating he would pick up his bowl and hide it somewhere in the back yard. The next day when it was time to feed him we would tell him “If you want to eat bring me your bowl”. After a few minutes of running around he would pick up his bowl and bring it to us.

  22. Susan says:

I have a 11 year old Carin terrier named Rascal, a 9 year old Ragdoll cat named Shadow and another cat about 6 year olds, who is a long haired stray that adopted us, named Callie.

Rascal and Shadow are actually the same size! Callie has decided she prefers being an indoor cat. LOL

  23. Jo Leigh says:

Shawn! Buster is absolutely adorable! I’d so be teasing that vicious brute, lol! Too, too cute!

And Ha! about Charles Gibson. My friend Debbi will simply not let it go. ::sigh:: Charles Gibson jokes for the rest of my life.

  24. Jo Leigh says:

Ellen, Corkie sounds like just the kind of pooch I’m crazy about. His little food bowl trick must have made him feel as though he was All Powerful when it came to food. I’m grinning just thinking about it.

  25. Jo Leigh says:

Susan, that must be fun for Rascal and Shadow to be so evenly matched. Do they play together?

Jessie was raised by my friend’s big ol’ cat, and even now, can’t get enough of the cat grooming her. She’ll stay still for ages as Dugly patiently gives her a nice little face bath.

And I don’t blame Callie. I’d be an indoor cat, too. :)

  26. Crystal B. says:

My dog’s name is Gypsy. She is a 1 year old German Shepherd.
She is very smart. My husband has taught her lots of tricks. She opens doors a lot and hides things from you.

  27. Max Boucherat says:

Sorry to be a pain; my friend pestered me to write a little bit more about my dog (Charlie the pit bull/labrador mix). He’s like a big puppy really. He trys to act tough and growly around other dogs, but really he’s a big softie- he used to be utterly, utterly terrified of my old cat =D. He seems to be pepetually bemused by the existance of his own tail- he’ll spend ages chasing it, fail hopelessly, and then try to pin it down either by leaning against a chair or else sitting down normally =). And then a minute later he’ll be back up again chasing it… and… that pretty much sums up his day =). And he also likes sleeping under the blanket.

Here’s a better picture of him:

    Charlie!

    http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb221/do_you_sell_crisps/Charrliiieeeee.jpg

  28. Jo Leigh says:

No problem at all. Charlie looks adorable, and I hope he gets his tail today!

  29. Jo Leigh says:

Crystal, any pictures of Gypsy? I’ll still try to use her, but it would be fun to see her.

  30. Susan says:

Rascal and Shadow love to play together. I don’t think they even realize that there is any difference between them!

  31. Crystal B. says:

I will try to take a picture of her and email to you.

  32. Ellen says:

Jo Leigh your comment about Corkie be All Powerful as far as his food was concerned reminded me of another trick he use to play. If I tried to feed him early because I had somewhere to be or came in late he would pull the dish away from me when I reached for it and make me chase him around the yard for it (he never dropped the bowl)

  33. Animal Lover » Blog Archive » Calling All Canines, and Other Precious Pets says:

[…] Jo Leigh is working on a new book, “that stars a pet concierge.” She says “there are going to be a […]

  34. Jo Leigh says:

I’m looking forward to it, Crystal!

Ellen, that is just too much. See, Corkie knows what’s important in life - HIM!

  35. Ilona says:

Not sure if you would be interested in a cat we used to own - he was 3 when we lost him. Alas I have no pictures online to link to but he was a silver grey tabby who was most unusual. We got him as a feral 1 year old and he soon settled down to being a character. He trained himself to use the toilet (although he never did learn to flush)and we used to have to take him for walks on a lead every Sunday. He also delighted in hanging around my shoulders like a scarf and looking dead until we got visitors - then he would suddenly lift his head and hiss at them to scare them.

  36. Ilona says:

Ooops forgot to tell you his name was Lightning - because he moved so fast all the time.

  37. Jo Leigh says:

Ilona, that’s so amazing - the opening of Chapter 2 starts with the heroine walking across the facility wearing a cat like a scarf! Now, of course, I’m going to add that the kitty hisses to scare people!!! I love it beyond words. Thanks so much, and yes, I’ll be calling that kitty Lightning.

  38. Woody Hansen says:

This is Rio, an 11-year old, 145 pound Shepa-Laba-Weiler-Dane-Mastiff-Tyrannosaurus! Rio loves children, dog biscuits, and carrying a tennis ball in his mouth during his daily walks. He has become the neighborhood goodwill ambassador, and the role model for my daughter’s dog, Buster-Brown-Butter-Bean-Boy (grin)!

    Rio!

    Rio!

  39. Jo Leigh says:

Rio’s gorgeous! What a handsome devil. It’s no wonder he’s charmed the neighborhood.

::sigh:: I want to have a party and invite all of your doggies over. What do you guys think. I’m in Utah - y’all willing to travel?

  40. Alyssa says:

My sister’s dog is named Chance. He’s 4, and is mostly Lhasa Apso. He is very loyal, has an obsession with toys that squeek, and loves freshly cooked green beans. I’ll send a picture.

    Chance and friend

    Chance!

  41. Jo Leigh says:

Alyssa, he’s adorable! I love his bangs. :)

And his friend’s pretty darn cute, too.

Thanks for bringing Chance to the party!

  42. Woody Hansen says:

A dog party in Utah? Rio volunteers me to bring the dog biscuits, and says he will act as the party’s “bouncer.” What a deal! I figure I canthrow a saddle on Rio and ride him to Utah! Yeee-Haw!

  43. Jo Leigh says:

Woody, you can ride Rio! Wouldn’t that just be the most fun? I think he’s one gorgeous big boy!

  44. Willa says:

Jo - just thought I should write something about Rosie other than the fact that she is seriously cute - as all the dogs here are!

Hobbies: Food, sleeping, food, being play chased around anything circular!

    Likes: People, fussing and brushing.

    Dislikes: Water/swimming.

  45. Jo Leigh says:

I’m so glad you did this, Willa! I was going to email you and ask for this very thing!
