Add me to the growing list of Chelsea Cain fans. Her book, HEARTSICK, was a terrific read. Original, smart, creepy, intricate. All the things I want in a book. A true sign I loved everything about it was the first thing I said to Dotes after I finished it - “I wish I’d written that.”
I’m not all that keen on serial killers these days (although I’ve read and enjoyed tons of them) but this was very compelling. For those of you who like this kind of book, I highly recommend it. :)
I’ve just order THE SPYMASTER’S LADY by Joanna Bourne after reading so many excellent reviews. It’s not my typical read - I usually read contemporary books, but sometimes it’s wonderful to dip my toes in other waters.
But now I have to read something else, because I don’t have Bourne’s book in hand. I’m thinking of TURNING ANGEL by Greg Iles. It’s a big, thick, juicy looking book that’s been highly recommended. On the other hand, I’ve got THE BESTSELLER by Olivia Goldsmith that’s been tempting me. Hmmm.
Oh, I was underwhelmed by MOUNT DRAGON by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Just, well, meh.
Oh, and for those of you keeping up with Sweeney Watch, 2008, the movie isn’t due here until the 18th, despite them telling me it would be here on the 11th. So we’re going to see it on the 19th (my birthday). I have already decided to find the emptiest space in the theater as I intend to sing along. Ha.

Thanks for tipping me off - I shall be among the masses - on the other side *grin* !!!
January 14th, 2008 at 3:03 amThank you, Jane! I’m glad you like the (terribly intermittent) blog.
Willa, if you show up at the same theater I’m in, I’m going to not only sit directly in back of you, but I shall kick your chair to the beat as I sing. heheheheh.

You won’t miss me - I’ll be the one wearing the enormous hat!
January 15th, 2008 at 10:43 amJolie, A very happy early birthday on the l9th! My sister’s is the next day. Hope the movie is all you want–it’s always chancy with adaptations of plays that one loves.
As far as THE SPYMASTER’S LADY, after (probably) reading the same reviews as you, I bought it, & just finished it. I’d call it a spy romance–not my genre, but, it’s a great story, very different with the intrigue & differentiating dialogue for the h/h. I, especially, loved the heroine who is very gutsy & brave. It’s a fascinating & challenging book, & I think you’ll love it.
January 16th, 2008 at 10:44 amThanks, Patricia and a happy birthday to your sister. :) I’ll report back on Spymaster’s Lady, although the reading of it will be delayed as I got my RITA books. Eight of ‘em!
Only two more days until Sweeney!
